Moving your super out of fossil fuels takes about fifteen minutes. Studies have shown that ethical funds can match or outperform conventional ones, so you don't have to sacrifice returns to do it.
Compare funds. The name of a fund isn't always a reliable guide to what it actually invests in. The Market Forces website has an independent analysis of Australian super funds and their fossil fuel exposure.
Open an account with your chosen fund. Most funds will arrange the transfer of your existing balance for you. You can also do it yourself online through the ATO website.
Tell your employer. Give them the details of your new fund using the ATO's Superannuation standard choice form.
Note: some Government departments and other employers do not permit employees to choose their own super fund. You may still be able to choose a more ethical option from those available to you.
